- What are Winks Messages?
Winks messages are pre-worded single line messages that you have the option of sending at no charge to you, as either a paid or basic member, to someone who you want to initiate contact with. Sending winks messages are a great way to test the waters, so to speak. You can use winks to indicate your interest in someone else and this will alleviate the fear of what to say to break the ice. It also allows someone the option of receiving your winks message and reviewing your profile information so they can form an idea of who you are and make a decision on how to reply to your winks message.
It is not possible to exchange contact details at this time because you aren't able to write your own words in a winks message. As the sender of a message to someone new, it is usually better to send a winks message first to indicate your interest before private messaging them.
- What are Private Messages?
Private messages are best sent to others once you have broken the ice by sending a wink or two and you and your new friend are both interested to learn more about each other. Either you or your new friend must be upgraded to a contact credit holder so that a credit can be spent on private messaging. Then a private message can be sent which will allow contact details to be exchanged.
If you receive winks or private messages, an icon will appear on your account page indicating the number of new messages you have.
Always Reply to Messages.
It's good etiquette to respond to all Winks and private messages, even if you aren't interested in that person. Someone obviously admires and cares enough about you to take the trouble to contact you and show their interest in you. It's polite to let them know if you're interested in pursuing communication with them. Think about it - If the shoe were on the other foot - If you sent a wink and were waiting on a reply, wouldn't you rather have a word or two back than be left waiting?

An excellent feature of this service is that as a sender of mail, you can choose to also send an SMS alert to a person with your outgoing winks or private message. In this case, if the sender chooses to send and SMS, the default is set to charge the sender one SMS credit and the recipient does not need to pay or have SMS credits available in their account. So you could still receive SMS alerts free with new mail, even if you have not paid for them!
For this reason, it's a good idea to enable SMS alerts in your account >> settings page, and input your mobile phone number, even if you have no SMS credit.
