Emailing a new dating friend is always an exciting time because you can get to know another person online without any commitments at this stage. Building the communication with a new dating friend is important before going out and meeting them. Think of it as screening someone and their credentials to meet you. Do they have what it takes to meet your expectations and hopes or desires?
There are a few key points you should think of writing about yourself when emailing a new dating friend which will put you in good stead:
1) Write about your general occupation, however keep this brief initially.
Write only the things you enjoy about your occupation. Aspects of your work you find rewarding. If your routine is to go and get a coffee and read a paper on the way to work, then let them know. This gives a dating friend an overall feel of what you like doing. Be descriptive, yet brief when describing what your work involves or the processes that occur throughout the day. Keep this down to two sentences.
2) Write about your weekend activity – What you did last weekend or are doing next weekend.
A dating friend wants to know what you get up to on your time off, if this is the weekend. An important point is to describe what you did last month or week or what you are doing next week because being general is easy and vague and lacks information. People prefer to know what you are currently doing rather than what you generally do. For instance: “On Saturday I went to the markets and browsed the confectionary store with a friend and then sat and had coffee and breakfast.”
Or you don’t have to be interesting if your weekend was ordinary, just write: “Saturday I mowed the lawn then did the laundry and housekeeping which was sadly in need of doing.” Keep this part brief also, maybe 1-2 sentences. The key is to remember, you’re not writing an essay here, just giving an overview of the past few weeks of your life.
3) Write what kind of movies or reading interests you and encourage information about that from your new dating friend.
Do you follow the latest news often and show interest in current affairs, or are you more a sitcom soapies fan? Talk about the best parts and the favourite movies. Do you honestly watch much TV or are you too busy? Do you like playing golf or going shopping? What kind of brain food keeps you ticking, in terms of activity?
4) Write what kind of personality you look for in a new dating friend. Being descriptive about what you’re looking for helps attract the right dating friend.
Write what kind of personality you like – Is it private? Do you like to meet people who stay home much of the time and work on different projects, clean, cook, or read books? Or do you prefer to meet someone with a busy social network who is out most times at the pub, club, visiting friends or movies? Would you like to meet a quiet, happy person or a flamboyant loud type of person, or a drinking partner? Do you get angry or firey at times, or are you a tolerant or patient kind of person? This is an important point and deserves 1-2 sentences.
Emailing a new dating friend for the first time requires patience in determining their motives and observing if they align with yours. The main point of initial contact with someone is to discover their real behaviour, after all, behaviour is the main characteristic of someone you want to understand, and whether their behaviour is consistent with yours.
